More than 11,000 left without power

Scottish Power said that more than 11,000 homes were left without power during the storm.

A spokesperson for SP Energy Networks said: “Our engineers responded to a high number of incidents across Mid and North Wales yesterday with Storm Francis bringing winds of up to 75mph in places along with heavy rain and flooding.

“Approximately 11,500 customers were off supply at the height of the storm with engineers working in extremely challenging conditions to make repairs.

“The biggest issue affecting the electricity network has been uprooted trees and other debris blown on to overhead power lines.

“A very small number of customers [under 30] remained off supply through the night from yesterday’s storm with our teams working into the early hours to make repairs. Weather conditions have improved significantly throughout today and we expect all to be restored by early afternoon.”
