In the letter, the SHRC said it had taken suo motu cognisance of media reports on the incident. The commission sought a detailed report from the police commissioner within three weeks.
It further said, “In the event of any default, the commission may proceed to take such action as it deems fit and proper.”
On Sunday, the minor boy from Surya Nagar at Ondipudur and two of his friends visited their friend. While they were returning home on a two-wheeler, police constable Durgaraj attached to the Singanallur (law and order) police station stopped them and questioned them for roaming in the streets during the complete lockdown.
According to police officials, the cop used his lathi to beat the boy when the latter attempted to escape from his grip for the second time. After reaching home, the boy informed the incident to his mother who in turn demanded stringent action against the constable.
The photographs of the boy and his injuries were shared widely on social media platforms.
