Tamil Nadu govt’s stand is NEET is not required for medical admission, minister says

K A Sengottaiyan
ERODE: Tamil Nadu school education minister K A Sengottaiyan on Wednesday said the state government has taken a stand that NEET is not required for medical admission.
The minister made the statement when he participated in the inauguration of various developmental projects worth Rs 4.26 crore in his Gobichettipalayam constituency.
The minister said an additional 2.35 lakh students got admitted to government schools in the state this year in comparison with last year. He said an additional 20,000 students might join in the coming days.
The minister said a few of the private schools in the state were collecting 100% fees, defying Madras high court’s order. The court has allowed schools to collect an ‘advance’ fee of 40% from students before August 31, not 100% fee.
“Concerned parents could lodge a complaint with the chief educational officer if any of the private schools collect 100% fee,” he said.
Private candidates who will be writing Class X board exams can apply online till August 27. These candidates had earlier requested the state government to declare ‘all-pass’.
The minister said, “The CM will take a decision on this and will announce it to the students."
