Six killed, over a dozen injured after two UPSRTC buses collide head-on in Lucknow

LUCKNOW: Six persons were killed and at least 15 others were injured in a collision between two UPSRTC buses in Kakori area of Lucknow on Wednesday. The accident occurred on Lucknow-Hardoi highway near Amethiya turn in Kakori.
The deceased were identified as- Nitesh Bharti (20) of Saadatganj, Lucknow, son-father duo- Lucky Saxena (18) and Rajendra Saxena (48) of Faizullahganj in Lucknow, bus driver of Hardoi bound bus- Sarvadhar (50), a native of Hardoi, Hariram (40), a native of Bihar and Vaibhavi Singh of Malihabad.
SHO, Kakori-PK Singh and assistant commissioner of police, Kakori SM Qasim Abidi were the first to reach the spot.
“Bus carrying passengers from Lucknow and bound to Hardoi was over taking a truck while another UPSRTC bus coming from opposite direction bound to Lucknow with 12 passengers collided with it head-on. In the melee, Nitesh Bharti who was having tea at kiosk was also crushed by the bus,” said Singh.
Due to heavy impact, both the buses suffered dents and the passengers sitting in the front rows suffered injuries while some other suffered injuries after they banged their heads against the bus wall and got stuck in the mangled piece of the bus, he said. The truck driver Zaheer was the first to inform police about the incident.
Minutes after the incident, passengers started crying in fear and pain and it drew attention of the commuters who were passing via the road. The police team reached to the scene though a PRV for the help of the passengers.
“All those injured were taken to KGMU hospital in Lucknow, and six were declared to be brought dead,” said Abidi who also pulled out passengers from the mangled pieces of the bus.
Abidi also told TOI that Hardoi bound bus was running around 40-50 km/hr and only because of wrong overtaking it crashed. “The condition of bus driver bound to Lucknow- Shriram Babu was out of danger,” he said.
The police said that at least 15 others were injured who were recuperating at the trauma centre. Joint-Commissioner of police, law and order, Naveen Arora, also visited the spot for supervising the rescue operations and also conducting a probe into the incident.
Arora also said that police will also conduct a technical inspection of the buses in order to know the reasons and then would also lodge an FIR.
