(Photo credit: KK Choudhary)NAVI MUMBAI: A four-year-old boy was rescued while four more persons were found dead in the debris at the Tarique Garden building collapse site in Mahad, taking the death toll to five.
Mohammad N Bangi, 4, was under the debris for over 19 hours before being extricated by the NDRF team.
The five deceased have been identified as Sayyad Hanif Samir (42), Navid Zamane (32), Nauseen Bangi (30), Adi Shaikhnag (12) and Mateen Mukadam (17).
Twelve persons are still trapped in the debris, including two children -- Ayesha Bangi (7) and Ruqaya Bangi (2). The relatives of the family are still hopeful of their survival.
Earlier in the day, Mahad sub-divisional officer Vitthal Inamdar had told TOI, "Out of total 86 persons in the building, 60 either escaped or were rescued. Of the 26 missing, seven have been rescued while one succumbed. Search is on for 19 persons. Of them 13, including three children, are in the debris of A Wing while six are trapped in B wing. The deceased and injured will be recommended for compensation.”
Three companies of NDRF's 85 staffers and six officers headed by its deputy commandant Alok Kumar are on the spot.
NDRF 5th Bn Pune deputy commandant Alok Kumar said, “Two sniffer canines specialised in detecting persons alive have not found anybody. Locating cameras have also been used but to no avail.”
