Covid-19 snuffs out 49 lives in Punjab

CHANDIGARH: Covid-19 snuffed out lives of 49 more people in Punjab while 1,293 people were tested positive on Tuesday.
The positivity rate was recorded at 5.79%, which was 6.38% lower than Monday. The overall tally of the state stood at 44,577 while the virus claimed 1,178 lives till date.
In all, 11 people were killed in Ludhiana and nine in Mohali. Five people each died in Amritsar and Patiala, four each in Faridkot and Jalandhar and three in Sangrur. Two deaths each were reported in Moga and Fatehgarh Sahib and one each in Mansa, Gurdaspur and Bathinda.
As many as 55 people in critical condition are on ventilators, of which 10 were added on Tuesday and 499 on oxygen support. Ludhiana contributed the highest of 175 cases followed by Mohali district which added 154 fresh cases to the state's tally. In Gurdaspur, 149 people were tested positive, 140 in Patiala, 119 in Jalandhar.
Reports of as many as 82 people came positive in Bathinda, 75 in Amritsar, 65 in Kapurthala, 61 in Hoshiarpur, 41 in Ferozepur, 39 each in Faridkot and Moga, 32 in Sangrur, 30 in Pathankot, 23 in Mansa, 15 each in Fazilka and Tarn Taran, 12 in Muktsar, 11 in Ropar, six in Barnala, five each in Nawanshahr and Fatehgarh Sahib .
A total of 788 people were discharged after recovering, taking the tally of patients discharged 29,145. Of them, 187 in Ludhiana, 130 in Jalandhar, 118 in Patiala, 86 in Mohali, 73 in Sangrur, 32 in Fatehgarh Sahib, 24 in Hoshiarpur, 23 each in Barnala and Gurdaspur, 19 in Mansa, 15 each in Kapurthala and Muktsar, 13 in Pathankot, 11 in Moga, nine in Tarn Taran, six in Amritsar and four in Fazilka.
