RENTON, Wash.: Seattle Seahawks defensive end Branden Jackson was back at the team facility Monday, two days after he suffered a head injury in a team scrimmage and was taken away in an ambulance.
Coach Pete Carroll said the team was going to be checking on Jackson to make sure he’s OK.
“Were going to be very deliberate about taking time,” Carroll said. “Any time you get hit in the head like that weve got to make sure we take all of the time it takes and all of the considerations.
Jackson, a fifth-year defensive end, appeared to collide helmet to helmet with offensive tackle Cedric Ogbuehi during a scrimmage Saturday at CenturyLink Field and seemed to be unconscious before he landed on the turf. Athletic trainers assessed Jackson and called for a backboard.
Jackson had movement in all his extremities but was taken to the hospital by ambulance as a precaution. He was later released and he posted an update on social media Sunday thanking fans for their support.
The injury happened just before halftime of the scrimmage and Carroll called off the rest of the mock game following the lengthy break to treat Jackson.
Hes back in the building with us today, in meetings today. Weve got to check him out. … Nothing was really injured, hes just recovering from such a big smack, Carroll said.
The only other injury of note to come out of the first scrimmage was to wide receiver Phillip Dorsett, who had a sore foot, Carroll said. Dorsett sat out practice Monday, but it was unclear if the injury could be a long-term concern.
