Officials said the center may allow the resumption of metro services across the country from 1 September. He said the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) hopes to issue new guidelines later this week.


Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal urged the Delhi Metro to reopen on a trial basis. Metro services were suspended in late March when the government imposed a nationwide lockdown to combat the spread of COVID-19.

Educational institutions, schools, and colleges are likely to remain suspended. Officials said the decision was taken after seeking input from the state government and educational institutions. Bars are no longer allowed to reopen but may be allowed to sell liquor over the counter for takeaway. Cinema halls will remain closed.

A Countrywide lockout was implemented from 25 March and extended to 31 May, after which the Center allowed the economy to open up under the guidelines of Kovid-19. Two sets of guidelines have been announced by the National Executive Council headed by the Home Secretary, which operates on the directives of the DDMA headed by the PM.
