If you are doing a government job and you have received a gift of five hundred rupees from your relative or friend, then first of all record it in the government record, otherwise it can be a big burden on you. If not done then your job can go. This new system has added to the difficulties of government employees for 44 years.
The government has enacted rules of conduct for government servants in 1976. According to these new rules, employees are required to take care of small things during the job. It is clear on the basis of government servant rule that no gift will be accepted without the approval of the ruler.
Although the government is going to increase the amount of five hundred rupees to five thousand, the old amount is still recorded in the records. There have been many cases related to government servants where employees have retired but they have not received approval for gifts.
Ajay Mathur, who retired from health services, says he sought permission from a relative on January 16, 2015, and retired in 2019 but did not get approval for the gift while in service. Apart from this, Ashtalata, who retired from health, says that a sari worth Rs 1,000 was gifted from her maternal home but did not get a reply for approval.
On occasions such as marriage anniversary, religious programs, the right of the first or second authority category can take a gift of up to five hundred rupees from close relatives, but the government will have to give information about it. While for third class employees this amount is Rs 250 and for the fourth category, it is Rs 100.
In 1976, the rules of conduct regarding government servants were made, since then more than 3,200 employees have taken permission from the government before taking gifts, but after 2000 there are 340 cases in which the government lodged an objection.
The government should consider increasing the amount of the gift and follow the rules strictly. If the government is increasing the amount of the gift, then make it public so that employees do not have to bother about small things. Explain that the rules regarding gifts have been amended from time to time.
