River Taff search for canoeist and second person in Cardiff

Police are searching a river following two reports people have gone into the river, including a capsized canoeist.

The canoeist was reported going into the River Taff at Taff's Well, north of Cardiff, just before 09:50 BST.

A search for another person is going on further down the river at Taff Embankment in Cardiff following a call to emergency services at 08:40 BST.

The air ambulance and hazardous area rescue team are on site in Taff's Well. Multiple crews are involved in both.

South Wales Police appealed for the person to contact them if they had left the water safely and believed they were the person in question.

A Welsh Ambulance Service spokesperson said of the Taff's Well search: "We are currently on scene with an emergency ambulance, the Wales Air Ambulance and our hazardous area rescue team arrived by road to assist colleagues from the fire service."

Meanwhile, in a separate incident, a woman has been rescued from the River Ely in Leckwith, Cardiff and has been taken to safety, police said.
