Gujarat: Fire breaks out in government-run hospital of Jamnagar, no injuries

RAJKOT: A fire broke out at the old intensive care unit (ICU) of the government-run Guru Gobind Singh Hospital in the Jamnagar district of Gujarat on Tuesday, but nobody was hurt and within an hour, the blaze was brought under control.

According to the hospital authorities, the fire broke out at nearly 2.45pm and there were nine patients in ICU. However, none of them were Covid patients. Three patients were on a ventilator and others were on oxygen. All of them have been shifted safely to other wards. Talking to media persons, Ravi Shankar, district collector of Jamnagar, said, “There is no human loss in this incident and all the patients and staff are safe.”

According to the fire department’s primary observation, the fire broke out because of an electric short circuit. This is an old building and wiring is also old. There is a thermocol ceiling and wooden partition because of which the fire spread quickly.
“Fire safety equipment is not old; there is no human loss but there is huge material loss and we are accessing it,” Ravi Shankar added. A senior technical team of Gandhinagar was due to visit the hospital.
