If you’re anything like us, you’d know that there’s no better high than putting on some great music and dancing like no one’s watching. Dance isn’t just a form of artistic expression, but also something that has the ability to transcend boundaries of cultures and languages. Over the years, we have seen many shows related to the performing art—from reality series to documentaries and more—that have given us a behind-the-scenes glimpse of professional studios and delved into the struggles and passion of the artistes. As we sit in our homes waiting for the world to get back to normal, stream these shows to get moving to the tunes.
The reality docuseries with eight episodes in its first season follows the life of Justin Dwayne Lee Johnson, who also goes by stage name Alyssa Edwards. The drag superstar is also a dance teacher in Mesquite, Texas, and goes about trying to find a balance among all his roles. While he's at it, the viewers can expect a lot of drama and fun.

Set in the 1970s Bronx, New York, Baz Luhrmann’s ambitious music drama introduces the audience to Zeke and Shaolin Fantastic, who band together in their struggle to become successful artists. The show also captures the hip hop culture of the era pretty accurately. There’s music, there’s dancing, there are drug wars and, because this is a Luhrmann creation, there’s a love story to go with it all.

What happens when you bring together some of the best young dancers and their ambitious instructors and parents into the mix? Loads of highs and a lot of lows; victories and defeats; tears of joy and emotional outbursts; and of course, high-level competitive dancing. Former ballroom dance champions Warren Bullock and his wife Jane star in the reality series that gives a backstage pass to their dance school, Zig Zag Dance Factory in England.

When the American Ballet Company’s prima ballerina struggles with ageing and an injury, its temperamental artistic director brings in a new, talented ballet dancer to save the company. But will this young girl with a tormented past be able to deal with the pressure? The eight-episode drama series is a realistic portrayal of a professional ballet company, with a dancing cast that makes the action on screen extremely credible.

This five-part docuseries is much more than just another show that features dancing. Creator Vandana Hart travels to different cities across the world to learn their dance styles, but more importantly, to learn and understand the wonderful human stories and emotions that lie behind them. From Lagos to Vietnam, Beirut, Bali and then Paris, she gives the viewers a chance to see the art as an international language that connects people across cultures.
