COIMBATORE: CCTV cameras at 13 border check posts would be linked to the modern control room at the district police office (DPO) in Coimbatore, stated superintendent of police Ara Arularasu on Tuesday.
The SP said an out police station would be set up at Walayar check post to curtail the illegal movement of hawala money and contraband items to Kerala. The vehicles entering Kerala will be checked round the clock by police teams.
“There is no police station on the Karumathampatti – Walayar stretch at a distance of 35 km. We usually checked the vehicles entering Coimbatore from Kerala,” said Arularasu.
The Coimbatore rural police have set up Tamil Nadu-Kerala border check posts at Mulli, Gopanari, Anaikatti, Walayar, Veerappagoundanur, Gopalapuram, Nadupuni, Vadakkukadu, Zaminkaliyapuram, Meenakshipuram, Semmanampathy and Malukkuparai.
Police personnel are present round the clock at all border check posts and each of these have four high resolution CCTV cameras with digital video recorders that can store the footage for a month.
“We have a modern control room with a video wall. We have around 250 CCTV cameras in Pollachi, Mettupalayam and Valparai town. The cameras will soon be connected to the modern control room,” said Arularasu.
He also added that the Coimbatore rural areas have more than 10,000 CCTV cameras located at commercial establishments and educational institutions. Some of these face the roads, and they can help the police when needed.
