CHENNAI:
Tamil Nadu on Tuesday reported 5,951 fresh
Covid-19 cases and 107 deaths. The number of active cases was 52,128 while the total tally rose to 3,91,303. Death toll reached 6,721.
As many as 6,998 patients were discharged on Tuesday. It takes the total number of discharged patients to 3,32,454.
Chennai remained the hotspot as it accounted for 1,270 of the fresh cases which took its total confirmed cases to 1,27,949. As many as 13,371 people are under treatment in the city.
Chennai’s three neighbouring districts recorded a total of 650 cases. They include 321 cases in Chengalpet, 214 in Kancheepuram and 305 in Tiruvallur.
Two other districts recorded more than 300 cases which include Cuddalore (370) and Coimbatore (322). Salem saw 297 new cases, Theni recorded 226 cases and Tirunelveli was at 204.
Among those who tested positive, seven were passengers who arrived in domestic flights while seven others who tested positive arrived from other states by road.
As many 67,888 people were tested. This has taken the total number of people tested in the state to 41,99,492.
