Representative image. YAMUNANAGAR: The Yamunanagar police on Monday booked owners of two dumpers, for failing to deposit compensatory amounts imposed as per the National Green Tribunal (NGT) orders, for causing damage to the environment by the commission of illegal mining activities.
Inspector Om Dutt Sharma from mines and geology department (MGD), Haryana lodged two separate complaints with the police.
On his complaint, two separate cases have been registered against unknown persons under Section 379 (punishment for theft) and 21 (4) (A) of the Mines and Minerals (Regulation of Development) Act at Buria police station in Yamunanagar district on Monday.
Inspector Om Dutt stated to the police that a special enforcement team (SET) of the MGD which was formed to check and stop illegal mining had confiscated two dumpers, one (HR58B9416) on December 29, 2019, and second (HR58B7994) on January 7, 2019, in Buria area of the district.
“Against the norms of NGT, these two vehicles were caught by Buria area mining staff involved in illegal mineral (core-sand) transport without any valid bill/additional mineral transport permit. As per the NGT orders dated April 23, 2019, and February 19, 2020, the owners of the confiscated vehicles are required to deposit compensation amount for causing environmental damage by the commission of illegal mining activities, penalty, royalty, and mineral value to the Mines and Geology Department for getting their vehicles released”, stated Om Dutt in separate complaints.
“The owners of these two dumpers did not deposit the required dues and the same are pending for recovery and deposit in the state treasury through e-challan. Accordingly, as per the orders of the NGT, the process to auction these vehicles has also started to get the amount of environment compensation and other fines”, further stated Om Dutt in his complaints.
The complainant requested the police to take action against the owners/drivers of the concerned vehicles to theft of minerals and illegal mining.
Buria police station house officer (SHO) sub-inspector (SI) Mem Singh said that the police will take action as per the complaint.
