BENGALURU: With bureaucrats under fire from doctors and hospitals for being arrogant and high-handed in Covid-19 management issues, the IAS Officers Association (
Karnataka) on Tuesday said it was “unjust” to hold senior officers responsible for the suicide of a doctor in
Nanjangud.
It may be recalled that a taluk health officer from Nanjangud in
Mysuru district had last week committed suicide and his colleages had alleged that bureaucrats had pushed the doctor to end his life by setting unrealisting testing targets for him. In the wake of protests by doctors, an FIR was registered against the CEO of
Mysuru Zilla Panchayat.
Pointing out that IAS officers on
Covid duty were working non-stop 24/7, the IAS Officers Association (Karnataka) said that the FIR has brought down the morale of officers on the field and such acts would deteriorate the administrative efficiency and effectiveness.
Appealing to the government to stand by the officers and keep their morale high, association secretary Pankaj Kumar Pandey said in a press release that the state government should support the hard work being put in by all the officers on the field.
Referring to the Nanjanagud doctor's death, the association said it was a very unfortunate incident and no one knows what prompted the doctor to take such a step.
“To blame an officer for doing his duty is not the right approach. The institution's character and media trial does irreparable damage,” reads the release.
