The Railways has reportedly fined more than 1.10 crore people for travelling without tickets in 2019-20. This has earned the railways a revenue of Rs 561.73 crore, a growth of around 6 per cent compared to 2018-19. The figures were discovered after an RTI was filed by Madhya Pradesh based activist Chandra Shekhar Gaur, who later revealed the details. As per norms, passengers travelling without valid tickets need to pay a minimum fine of Rs 250 along with the cost of the ticket.
