Western Railway's loss of revenue due to Covid-19 pandemic crosses Rs 2,255 crore

MUMBAI: The total loss of revenue over Western Railway(WR) on account of coronavirus has been above Rs 2,255 crore, which includes Rs 339 crore for suburban section and Rs 1,916 crore for non-suburban, WR chief spokesperson Sumit Thakur said on Sunday.
"Due to cancellation of tickets from March till August 22, WR has given a refund of Rs 418 crore. Mumbai division alone gave a refund of Rs 201 crore. Till now, 64.50 lakh passengers have cancelled their tickets," he stated.
The WR has continued with transportation through its freight trains during Lockdown months and has loaded 12,706 rakes of goods trains since March 22, earning revenue of Rs 3339 crore. "Since March 23, commodities weighing more than 1 lakh tonnes have been transported through 484 parcel special trains, which mainly included agricultural produce, medicines, fish, milk etc" Thakur added.
