Vasco: The immersion of Lord Ganesh idols which were worshipped for one and half day at homes in Vasco and even at Sarvajanik Ganesh mandals across the state, were held peacefully since Sunday evening.
The Ganesh idols which were worshipped in homes for one and half day besides by Sarvajanik Ganesh mandals were taken out for immersion since 4.30 pm at various designated immersion points.
People who worshipped Lord Ganesh idols at homes performed the rituals in the absence of a purohit due to the COVID-19. The temple committees and group of people in localities have decided not to invite purohits at homes, as part of safety measures, to contain the spread of COVID-19.
People performed all the essential rituals and ceremonies on their own and then took the idols for immersion. It was observed that some people had kept the Lord Ganesh idols at certain points in a row to perform aartis. It was also observed that people who participated in the immersion had worn face masks as preventive measures, following the guidelines issued by the state government.
The people had even maintained social distancing while carrying Lord Ganesh idols to the immersion points and also at the time of immersion.
The lifeguards of Drishti Marine were deployed at all the immersion points in order to assist the people while immersing the idols.
A strong pose of police were deployed at all the immersion points. The traffic personnel who were deployed at the immersion points managed to maintain the traffic flow smoothly without any chaos and confusion.
It was learnt that all the Sarvajanik Ganeshotsav mandals have immersed the Ganesh idols on Sunday in order to avoid mass-gatherings and possibilities of contracting the virus.
