HYDERABAD: The second meeting of the apex council aimed at resolving the Krishna and Godavari river water-sharing issues between Telangana and Andhra Pradesh states has been postponed. The new date of the meeting will be intimated soon.
The meeting was scheduled to be held on August 25. The Union Jal Shakti Ministry has addressed letters to the chief secretaries of the two Telugu states informing that the postponement is due to unavoidable circumstances. The letters have also been sent to the chairpersons of the Central Water Commission, Krishna River Management Board and Godavari River Management Board.
The postponement of the meeting is reportedly due to the chairman of the apex council and Union Jal Shakti Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat being tested positive for Covid-19 recently. The apex council has been constituted as per the provisions under the AP Reorganization Act, 2014.
The opposition Congress has said that people of Telangana will hold CM KCR directly responsible if Andhra Pradesh state is successful in taking away 6.3 tmc of water which is presently flowing through gravity to Telangana that too free of cost.
Telangana Congress president and Nalgonda MP N Uttam Kumar Reddy said Why is KCR, who makes such a big noise on inconsequential issues, is keeping his mouth shut. “When AP is trying to take away 6.3 tmc water through Pothireddypadu and Rayalaseema Lift irrigation Scheme, which is three times the water being lifted from Kaleshwaram, a project on which the state government is spending Rs 1.25 lakh crore,” he asked?
The people of Telangana have doubts that there is a conspiracy happening at the highest level as part of which CM KCR has avoided attending the apex council meeting on August 5 and allegedly letting the tender process for the two irrigation projects by AP government be completed. A majority of the people in Telangana feel that this smells of a serious conspiracy against the interests of Telangana farmers, Uttam alleged.
The TPCC chief said that KCR should resign the day works begin at the site on the two irrigation projects in AP.
