Smugglers escape after hitting STF team in Patiala; 3 booked

PATIALA: The police have registered a case against three alleged drug smugglers including two unidentified under sections of an attempt to murder, obstructing public servant and sections of NDPS Act for allegedly hitting the police team before escaping.
The police said that no drugs could have been recovered as the accused managed to escape. The incident took place near a Toll Plaza near Payd village on Saturday when accused had hit the police vehicle with their car in order to escape.
Patran police Station House Officer said that the STF team was from Sangrur district and on information they wanted to nab an accused identified as a resident of Rohti Channa village of Nabha division of Patiala. He said that according to the statement of STF team headed by SI Apaar Singh the case was registered against the accused and hunt was on to nab them. He said the police team even opened fire in the air while making attempts to arrest the accused.
“The STF team said they had a tip-off about the accused who were to cross from Patiala after getting consignment of supply of narcotic tablets purchased allegedly from Ghaziabad. The STF team said that a police vehicle each from the rear and in front of the car of accused was brought in a way to arrest them but they hit the police vehicle and then tried to ram the police personnel on the road after they were signalled the accused to stop. It is yet to be investigated that whether the accused identified as a resident of Rohti Channa village has been booked under NDPS cases or not. Further investigation is underway and the accused will be arrested soon”, said, SHO Patran police station.
