BENGALURU: A US court has upheld the verdict of $140 million in compensatory damages against Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) related to a trade secret theft case filed by American company Epic Systems.
However, the court observed that the $280 million awarded in punitive damages is “constitutionally excessive” and asked the trial court to reassess the amount.
Epic develops software to manage electronic health records.
“TCS is exploring the options available to it, as it believes that there is no evidence of misuse of Epic information,” the company said.
