Strange thing... Yes to economic activities and no to religious activities: Supreme Court

The Supreme Court has said how strange it is that the government is willing to take a risk for commercial interest, but when it comes to religion, Corona does not allow the program by citing the epidemic. Commenting on the Maharashtra government, the apex court allowed the opening of three Jain temples at Dadar, Byculla, and Chembur in Mumbai for the festival of Paryushan on 22 and 23 August.

However, it also insisted that the order is for these temples only. A three-member bench headed by Chief Justice SA Bobde has allowed a limited number of devotees to enter and worship at these three Jain temples in Mumbai under the standard operating procedure of the central government.

This order will not be valid for festivals like other festival festivals, especially Ganesh Utsav, which is crowded in large numbers. The court said that the State Disaster Management Department will have to take case-by-case permission for the Ganpati Festival. The bench was hearing a Bombay High Court order that said Jain would not interfere in the state's decision not to allow the temple to be opened.

Earlier, senior advocate Dushyant Dave, appearing on behalf of the petitioner trust, said, "Paryushan festival is a very holy festival for the Jain community. He said a limited number of devotees should be allowed to enter temples. At the same time, advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi, appearing for the Maharashtra government, opposed the demand for permission to enter temples during the Corona epidemic.

Why is the rath yatra not allowed for other religious festivals?

Dave asked Singhvi, is the state government monitoring the malls, shops, salons, etc. People gather in gyms and malls. Thousands crowd outside liquor shops. When a community is assuring that the rule will be fully complied with, why permission should not be granted.

Chief Justice Bobde agreed, saying, "We feel strange that all business activities have been opened." Where money is involved, the government is willing to take the risk, but in religious matters, it starts citing Corona that we cannot do it. The Chief Justice said that while we can allow Jagannath Rath Yatra, why not allow another festival with guidelines.

Only 5 devotees enter the day

5 devotees at a time and a maximum of 250 devotees will get admission in a day. The bench clarified that the order is limited to this matter only.
