The wife of an AFL star has spoken about her heartbreak after suffering a devastating miscarriage.  

Lauren Gibbs, the wife of Adelaide Football club player Bryce Gibbs, took to Instagram to share the upsetting news.

The couple who already have two children together, Charlie, five, and Madison Rose 11 months, were expecting their new baby in the new year.

Ms Gibbs shared a photo of her two children (pictured) in matching pyjamas saying she had been excited 'to be joined by another little one'

'We were so excited at the thought of seeing these two with another sibling,' she wrote along with a photo of her two children wearing matching pyjamas. 

'I started making matching pjs for them as they were to be joined by another little one in the new year. 

'Instead we will just be left with dreams of what could have been. It’s crazy how much you can love somebody that you have never met before.'

Ms Gibbs thanked her 'wonderful' family and friends and said she was 'grateful for my two little ones who make my world better every single day'

She explained to her followers that speaking about the miscarriage has helped her deal with the trauma. 

'I know I am not alone in this and speaking about my miscarriage has certainly helped,' she continued. 

'I have taken strength from so many strong women who have supported me by sharing their stories of similar times. 

'Thank you to all my wonderful family and friends. Grateful for my two little ones who make my world better every single day.' 

The couple, who have been together for 12 years, got married in November 2018 in the Barossa Valley.
