As most people are working from home due to COVID-19, sales of the humble ‘chappal’ or flip-flops have gained traction, while formal footwear and sports shoes are still playing catch up. Open footwear ranging from Rs 500 to 5,000 have reportedly been sold out from online sites during the lockdown. ‘There has been a change in the requirement point of view from consumers due to the pandemic,’ said Sandeep Kataria, Bata India CEO.
