Missing woman’s body found in drain near house

Noida: The body of a 60-year-old woman, who went missing from her house in Sector 19 on August 13, has been recovered from a drain 100m away from the house.
The elderly woman was suffering from depression and had left home around 12.45 pm without her phone or any money. The family had even announced a reward of Rs 25,000 for any information about her whereabouts. After the family failed to trace her at any of her possible whereabouts, they lodged a missing persons complaint with the local police station. Police then scanned the CCTV footages in the area and spotted her seated near a drain in the Sector.
Eight days later, when the drain started emitting a foul smell the police suspected her body could be in it.
“The woman was seen sitting between the drain and its parapet. Apart from this, she was not captured by any other CCTV cameras,” a police officer who saw the CCTV told TOI.
Sector 20 station house officer (SHO) Rakesh Singh told TOI that the woman possibly fell into the drain accidently or jumped into it.
“She was under depression for the past some time. Her husband had told police that she used to say that she was a burden on her family. She was inactive and would remain upset,” he said.
The SHO said that the post mortem report of the woman has confirmed drowning as cause of death. Her body was brought out of the drain by a four-member divers team of the National Disaster Response Force around 6pm after a six-hour-long search operation.
