Chetan Mittal appointed chief legal advisor of PGIMER Chandigarh

CHANDIGARH: City-based senior advocate Chetan Mittal, who is also the assistant solicitor general (ASG) of India, has been appointed as the chief legal advisor of the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) Chandigarh. Mittal has been appointed by the premier institute on coveted position on approval from the union minister for health and family welfare in his capacity as the president of the institute.
In his new position, Mittal would discharge all normal duties of chief legal advisor which includes requiring interpretation of laws, rules and instructions, land disputes, disputes with suppliers, labour matters, acquisition of land, taxation, compensation etc.
As assistant solicitor general of India, Mittal has been handling various kinds of litigation of the Central government at Punjab and Haryana high court.
Designated as senior advocate in 2008, Mittal had also been the additional advocate general in the office of advocate general, Punjab. He was enrolled as an advocate in the year 1991 after obtaining a degree in law from Panjab University, Chandigarh. After spending initial years of his professional career at district courts, Chandigarh, he started practising at the Punjab and Haryana high court, Chandigarh. He has appeared in many civil, criminal and constitutional matters of great importance and also in a number of full benches involving intricate questions of law including constitutional issues. 51-years old Mittal belongs to a family of illustrious advocates.
