MOTHERLAND
Season return ★★★★★
9.30pm, ABC Comedy
The school gate scene at the start of this second season of Sharon Horgan’s bitey parenting comedy is an exercise in establishing multiple characters at once. They’re identifiable, only slightly exaggerated versions of common types – the frazzled working mum, the queen bee, the cynical outsider and the irritatingly wholesome house husband. Newly arrived supermum, Meg (Absentia’s Tanya Moodie, in a superb drunk performance) stirs the pot.

11.30pm, 9Life
It’s all about loved-up crew couple, Jenna and Adam, on this charter sailing yacht, meandering around the Greek Islands with a handful of rich holidaymakers up top and a horny crew down below. Jenna and Adam might have trust issues, but that doesn’t stop them making out whenever and wherever the mood takes them, much to the chagrin of the other staff. Close quarters and a complete lack of privacy make this the ideal setting for loosely scripted reality romance.

WOK VS POT WITH MARION AND SILVIA
New series ★★★
8pm, SBS Food
Just like the “sensibly bubbling” oil and garlic that Marion Grasby is “persuading to become friends” for her Thai breakfast rice soup recipe, the MasterChef alumnus and Italian-Australian actress, Silvia Colloca, complement each other nicely. Without a hint of the confected competition of other culinary pairings, these two congenially cook to a common theme. While Grasby makes her rice soup, Colloca stirs risotto. Next up, it’s rice noodles in the wok, egg pasta in the pot.
