The incident happened at Muthugoundenpudur near Sulur where the woman, Sangeetha, was residing alone.
Police said Rajesh Kumar was posted in Chennai during 2017 when he fell in love with Sangeetha. Both belonged to different communities and they got married in August that year.
They were residing in a house at Muthalipalayam near Sulur before moving to the present rental house. Her husband was later transferred to Nagaland. He had taken 20 days leave and visited her in January this year. After returning to his camp, he often spoke to his wife over phone and video calls.
As the pandemic broke out and the lockdown intensified, Sangeetha asked Rajesh Kumar to take leave for some days and visit her. However, he said the authorities were not sanctioning leave during the pandemic and asked her to bear with him.
On August 18, around 4.30 pm, Sangeetha spoke to her husband over a video call. She told him that she was feeling very lonely and depressed. She pleaded with him again to take leave and come. When he explained the situation, she told him that she would commit suicide by hanging and cut the video call.
Police said she hanged herself from a ceiling fan.
