The official said "alert troops of the 103rd battalion noticed suspicious movement of intruders violating the IB" in the Taran Taran district of Punjab.
When asked to stop, the intruders fired on BSF troops who retaliated in self-defence. Subsequently, five intruders were shot dead, the BSF officer said.
“The whole area was immediately cordoned off,” said BSF sources.
They further informed that an intensive search operation of the whole area is underway. “For now we have recovered five bodies, AK 47 and as many as three pistols and a grenade in the fields but we will get to know about their actual strength and their intentions only after the search is completed” said sources.
Sources also informed that the intruders could have tied improvised explosive devices (IEDs) around their bodies.
