Gurgaon: Three men were killed on Thursday in Sector 9 owing to a rivalry between two gangs in the city, said police. The decade-old dispute over a 1,200-square-yard plot in Basai has assumed the face of a full-blown bloodied confrontation between the two criminal gangs, which has led to six murders so far.
The murders of three men on Thursday were also the fallout of the rivalry between Johny and Hariom gangs,TOI has learnt.
All the three men killed in Sector 9 on Thursday were linked to the Johny gang while their alleged killers, currently on the run, belonged to the Hariom gang, sources said. The leaders of both the gangs with a history of violence in the region are, however, lodged in jails. In fact, according to sources, the Hariom gang has taken a pledge to eliminate all the members of the Johny gang and the triple murders “were the beginning of it”. The Hariom gang had allegedly prepared a hit list of 22 people from the Johny gang, of which three were killed on Thursday.
Gurgaon police on Friday announced a reward of Rs 3 lakh on the heads of three suspects in the recent case. “Police teams are trying to track the accused involved in Thursday’s triple murder,” ACP (crime) Preet Pal Sangwan said.
The genesis of the conflict is the decade-old dispute over 1,200 square yard plot in Basai village, with both groups claiming stake to it.
In fact, Johny’s father died when he was young and his mother was killed around 15 years back. At the time, Johny and his younger brother Binny were very young and their maternal uncle subsequently raised them in Jhajjar. But when Johny returned to his village in Basai in 2010, Hariom and his family had already taken control of the 1,200 square yard plot.
Johny claims that the plot is their ancestral property and the only property they have, but Hariom refuses to give up claim over the land. “Johny first killed his uncle in 2012 suspecting his role in murder of his mother, and eventually both he and Hariom entered into the world of crimes,” a police official said.
Over the years, Johny came close to gangster Ashok Rathi. Last year, Johny killed Hariom’s brother Akshay. Few months later in September 2019, Ashok Rathi was killed at his home and Johny managed to flee with a huge cache of Rathi’s illegal weapons. In the beginning of this year, Johny was arrested on charges of possession of illegal firearms.
And in March this year, when Johny was in jail, Hariom’s men killed Johny’s younger brother Binny in Rewari. “Both the groups have old enmity over property,” said ACP Preet Pal Sangwan.
