Scientists have told about a new way of testing the coronavirus. There will be low-cost saliva (saliva) test and people will be able to collect their own samples without any trouble for this. Kovid-19 can be easily detected by this method of corona testing.

The scientists said that this method of testing will produce faster and more accurate results and will also reduce the risks that health workers face during sample collection. At present, this method is not being used in India, but it is expected that this method will be tested soon.

This corona testing will be conducted on saliva based on nasopharyngeal swab methods. With the help of this, people can easily collect their own samples, they have to drop saliva in a tube and send it to a lab for testing.

This is a unique approach because it does not require a separate nucleic acid (RNA) extraction step, said AR Anand, senior associate professor at L&T Microbiology Research Center, Chennai. This is also important because a shortage of extraction kits was observed earlier.

Anand considers saliva testing to be an easy method, requiring some reagents and a real-time polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) machine for this test.

This week the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved the Yale School of Public Health Emergency 'Salivdirect' Kovid-19 testing. Discussion on this new technology has intensified following FDA approval.

Although saliva testing is yet to be approved for widespread use in India, scientists like Anand suggest that the matter be taken forward.
