Now also know what the CBI is and when and how it investigates

CBI is a premier investigating agency functioning under the Department of Personnel, Ministry of Personnel Pensions and Public Grievances, Government of India. It is also a nodal police agency, which coordinates the investigation of Interpol member-nations. Apart from being an anti-corruption agency, the CBI is a multidisciplinary, multi-disciplinary central police, a law enforcement agency conducting investigations, adhering to capacity, reliability, and law mandate and prosecutes crimes anywhere in India.

Why need CBI?

At the beginning of the Second World War, British government spending is believed to have increased significantly. Due to which the plunder of corrupt businessmen and government officials in the country had increased greatly. Since the local police were not able to investigate such cases, the British government felt the need for a skilled and special police force.

Therefore, the Special Police Establishment (SPE) was established in 1941. The need for a central investigative agency was also felt in the post-war years. Then the Delhi Special Police Establishment-DPSE Act came into existence in 1946. This act transferred the supervision of the Special Police Establishment to the Home Department and all the departments of the Government of India were included in the periphery of its functions.

It is also implemented in the states with the consent of the states. Later in 1963, the Delhi Special Police Establishment was renamed as Central Bureau of Investigation-CBI. However, even today the scope of the CBI is determined by the Delhi Special Police Establishment Act of 1946.
