Uttar Pradesh: Over 360 cops contracted Covid-19 in Prayagraj range, one dead

PRAYAGRAJ: At least 367 policemen have tested positive for coronavirus in four districts of the range, including Prayagraj, Pratapgarh, Fatehpur and Kaushambi till August 20.
While 213 policemen have recovered, 153 others are still undergoing treatment or in self-quarantine. An inspector-rank official posted at Pratapgrah district succumbed to the virus at SRN hospital, Prayagraj, on August 16.
With a Covid count of 159, Prayagraj police are the worst hit. While Kaushambi recorded the lowest of 31 cases till August 20, Pratapgarh and Fatehpur clocked 97 and 80 cases among cops respectively.
In Pratapgarh, 97 policemen, including four inspectors, five sub-inspectors, seven head constables, 32 constables, one computer operator, three followers, one home-guard, 40 reserve police force personnel have been infected. While 66 others are hospitalised or quarantined, 30 cops recovered in the district.
In Kaushambi, 31 policemen tested positive till August 20. While 24 were discharged, seven others are still being treated or in home isolation. In Fatehpur, 80 policemen have been infected. While 54 cops have recovered, the remaining 26 are still unwell.
In Prayagraj, 159 policemen tested positive and while 105 have recovered, 54 others are still undergoing treatment or in home isolation.
Speaking to TOI, IG (Prayagraj range) K P Singh said, “Policemen returning from leave from home towns or other places are being asked to undergo Covid-19 test before joining the force. Cops with symptoms must undergo test and taking corrective measures. Cops have also been asked to wear mask and use sanitizers while performing duty.” Over 12 policemen have also been challaned for not wearing masks in duty.
