MUMBAI: A group of men and women who had travelled from Mumbai to Kelwe beach in Palghar district for a pre-wedding shoot on Wednesday have been booked by the police.
Though inter-district travel is not prohibited, the Palghar district administration has banned people from visiting beaches, dams, waterfalls and other tourist spots in the district till October 8. The prohibitory order is to avoid any untoward incidents during monsoon.
On Wednesday, locals informed the Kelwe police that around 17 people, including three women, were clicking photographs on the beach. The groom and bride had travelled from Malad in Mumbai to the beach for some pre-wedding photography. The group included the couple's families and close friends, along with their photographer.
Despite villagers asking them to leave, they continued to shoot. They had come in private vehicles. The police reached the beach and booked them
under sections 269 (negligent act likely to spread infectious disease), 188 (defying order issued by a public servant) of the IPC and under the National Disaster Management Rules and Epidemic Act.
No arrest was made as they were let off with a warning.
Police said that monsoon getaways are banned, even for locals. Barricades have been put up near dams and waterfalls. But people tend to defy the barricades and visit the tourist spots.
