Staff officer of GBU suspended, says ‘being targeted’

Greater Noida: Days after a former HOD of Gautam Budh University (GBU) levelled allegations of sexual harassment against the registrar, the university has suspended the staff officer to the vice chancellor (VC) over allegations of submission of “fake education documents”.
“The PhD degree of the officer is suspicious and an inquiry is undergoing to verify it. As per a response given by the Chaudhary Charan Singh University, the latter has said that the degree for the officer concerned has not been issued by the varsity. I had sent them a final query on August 17 to which, they have replied on August 18 stating this,” registrar SN Tewari said at a press conference.
However, the suspended officer who has been in the role for 10 years, said she is being targeted. She alleged that in July, the registrar had asked him to tell the complainant to withdraw her leave application where the complainant had mentioned that she was forced to apply for a ‘sabbatical leave’, and had threatened of dire consequences if the complainant refused.
The staff officer also claimed to have submitted a complaint to the vice chancellor on August 6 about the registrar’s behaviour with the female staff, and mentioned that some had also spoken out against him for using derogatory remarks.
The officer said that at the time of her appointment in July 2010, she had mentioned in her details that she was “pursuing PhD” and had not attached any related document. “The required qualification was till graduation and only those documents were submitted. I had enrolled in a PhD programme in Purvanchal University but could not complete the programme due to personal reasons, and never said that I have a PhD degree,” she said.
The suspended officer also accused the registrar of trying to access her office computer several times in her absence. “On August 4, he entered my office in the evening around 7 pm and asked a colleague for my password. He visited my office again before office hours the following morning, called up a colleague to get my password and accessed it,” she has written in a complaint she said she had handed to the VC on August 6.
However, the vice chancellor, BP Sharma, told TOI that he has not received a written complaint about any of the above accusations, although the last matter was brought to his notice. “I had called both the staff officer and the registrar. The officer was pacified after the registrar’s explanation and said that she does not have a problem with him anymore. She had not given any written complaint to me. If she had, I would have immediately constituted an inquiry,” she said.
The registrar SN Tewari told TOI that all the allegations against him were malicious.
