UEFA Europa League 2020 Final Highlights: Sevilla were crowned the UEFA Europa League champions for the sixth time in history after beating Inter Milan 3-2 in the final at the Rhein Energie Stadion, Cologne on Friday.
Antonio Conte’s side started well, winning a penalty within five minutes after Romelu Lukaku was fouled inside the box by Diego Carlos. After the Belgian converted the spot-kick, Sevilla hit back in the 12th minute courtesy of a diving header of Luuk de Jong. The Dutchman doubled his tally and put his team ahead in the 33rd minute with another header. Inter equalised within two minutes as Diego Godin gave Sevilla a taste of their own medicine in the 35th minute — a header from a Marcelo Brozovic free-kick.
In the second half, both the teams had a cagey contest, looking for chances but it was Sevilla who struck the fatal blow in the 74th minute to Inter. Trying to stop a Diego Carlos bicycle kick, Lukaku put the ball into the back of his own net and that proved to be the eventual winner.
SEVILLA WIN! The final whistle blows and everyone goes crazy as Sevilla beat Inter 3-2 in the final, thanks to a headed brace of Luuk de Jong and a decisive Romelu Lukaku own goal. Julen Lopetegui also manages to win his first-ever trophy as a manager. Sevilla extend their record to six -- in just 14 years, without ever losing a final. Serial winners.
Inter have put everyone infront now with Candreva and Eriksen whipping balls inside the box, but to no avail.
Youssef En-Nesyri and Nemanja Gudelj are on for de Jong and Carlos. Just minutes away from Sevilla's sixth win!
Inter come very, very close to equalising again as Alexis Sanchez, who came on for Martinez, is played in by Eriksen and his shot from the left wing is cleared off the line by Sevilla defender Kounde. A very tight affair here.
OHHH MY! What an effort by Diego Carlos, a bicycle kick from an indirect free-kick but what was assumed to be a brilliant goal is actually an own goal. Carlo's shot was going wide, and in an attempt to stop it, Lukaku put the ball into the back of his own net.
Munir El Haddadi replaces the injured Lucas Ocampos. Heading towards the final 20 minutes now!
What an important save by Yassine Bounou! After a buildup play of Sevilla is intercepted by Inter, Lukaku finds himself ahead of everyone and with the ball, but his left-footed shot is saved brilliantly by a rushing Bounou. Big, big save!
Sevilla are comfortably in the driving seat an hour into the game. Apart from Lukaku's penalty and Godin's header, they haven't allowed Inter a proper shot at goal, and that's why Gagliardini had to choose to shot from way outside in this half. Banega's pulling the strings and Suso and Ocampos are making life difficult for that three man defence. Can Conte change the look of the game?
The young Bastoni goes into the book four coming from behind and fouling Suso on that left wing.
The second half hasn't had an explosive start here with the two sides slowing things down a little... occasionally with the niggly fouls. Carlos, Banega and Barella are on bookings so far. In a final which is set up like this, they have to be careful.
What's in store for us now? More headers? More fouls? More goals? Let's find out.
What a game of football we have had here, filled with twists and turns. After Lukaku was tripped down by Carlos, Inter were ahead from a penalty. Then came de Jong's historic heading masterclass as he scored two in twenty minutes, but Sevilla's lead was cancelled in just two minutes by Godin. Although Sevilla have controlled much of the game, they are level at the break.
WHAT AN EQUALISER! What a game really, as the big Uruguyan centre-back equalises minutes after conceding. Brozovic takes the free kick just outside the box on the right side, and Godin jumps the highest to put it into the back of the net. Game on!
THE DUTCHMAN AGAIN! What a header again! De Jong heads Sevilla in front after a period of dominance by the team. After countless free-kicks, Banega now gets his assist from an exquisite cross. The experience matters, right?
Antonio Conte is booked here after he goes on a rant against the referee for not giving a controversial penalty to Inter. Barella tried to play a through ball to Lukaku inside the opposition box but was blocked in its path by Carlos... and his hand.
WHAT A HEADER! The man who won the semi-final against Manchester United has now scored the equaliser in Cologne. Sevilla were in control and after a patient buildup, Navas whips the ball from right and de Jong just leaps ahead to head the ball in the near post past the safe hands of Handanovic. Sevilla shock the Italian giant with their experience. Game on!
