Covid effect: KSRTC modifies seating alignment

BENGALURU: To ensure social distancing due to Covid-19, Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) has modified seating alignment in a luxury bus on a pilot basis.
KSRTC officials said they modified a Rajahamsa bus plying between Bengaluru and Mysuru to create more space between passengers.
“We modified a 39-seater bus to a 29-seater bus with three-row seating. Earlier, it had two seats each on either side but now there are three independent seats on each row. The new seat in the middle helps maintain a gap between passengers. As many passengers were worried about travelling with strangers during the pandemic, we came up with this idea,” said a senior KSRTC official.
“We got good feedback and now plan to deploy it in other long-distance routes and buses,” he added.
Officials said they’re allowed to carry only half the number of passengers to ensure social distancing. “We hope this new seating arrangement will attract more people to our buses” he said.
The Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation had recently come up with similar seating to ensure social distancing.
