Slight improvement in Pranab Mukherjee's respiratory parameters: Army hospital
- There has been a slight improvement in respiratory parameters of former President Pranab Mukherjee, though he continues to be on ventilator support, according to the Army Research and Referral Hospital on Thursday.
- The Army hospital, Delhi Cantonment said that the Mukherjee's vitals are stable and he is being monitored closely by specialists.

- Millions of internet users on Thursday are facing trouble while sending emails and attachments through Gmails and also connecting with many of the G suite services.
- A few minutes ago, the Google apps status page updated to confirm that they have received reports of an issue with Gmail and Google Drive.
- Google's status page also said they are investigating the issue. It also indicated reports of problems with Google Meet, Google Voice and Google Docs, while anecdotal reports show people are having issues uploading to YouTube as well.

Russian opposition politician Navalny poisoned, hospitalised
- Russian opposition politician Alexei Navalny was poisoned and hospitalised on Thursday morning, his spokeswoman said.
- The 44-year-old foe of Russia's President Vladimir Putin felt unwell on a flight back to Moscow from Tomsk, a city in Siberia, Kira Yarmysh said on Twitter.
- “The plane made an emergency landing in Omsk. Alexei has a toxic poisoning,” Yarmysh tweeted.
- Navalny is unconscious and was placed on a ventilator in an intensive care unit. According to Yarmysh, he must have consumed something from the tea he drank this morning.

- Alleging there is a scam in the purchase of marshlands and low lying land at "feigned prices" for constructing houses for the poor, Telugu Desam Party (TDP) leader N Chandrababu Naidu has written to Andhra Pradesh Chief Secretary urging him to conduct an inquiry into the same.
- The former chief minister said that he was disheartened by the government acquiring the land belonging to the poor, and downtrodden sections of the society in the name of housing sites for the poor and further said that it has now ventured into buying marshland, wetland, low lying land, mangroves or other forest lands which is not suitable for housing in an illegal manner.
Rain, thunderstorms may affect flight operations in Delhi, ATC alert to airlines
- The national capital has been witnessing rains since morning and flight operation at Delhi's IGI Airport could be affected due to them, according to the Delhi Air Traffic Control's (ATC's) warning issued to all airline carriers.
- "Between 8:30 am and 10:30 am IST, it is prone to thunderstorms with light and rain and wind speed 3 knots, direction 130 degree. Hence! All airlines take necessary action. ATC also advises airlines to deal with dense clouds near the airport," Delhi ATC advised airlines.
Fire at residential building in Delhi's Lakshmi Nagar, 3 rescued
- Three persons have been rescued by the fire department after a fire broke out at a residential building in Krishan Ganj, Lakshmi Nagar of Delhi early today morning.
- The three rescued persons have been identified as Aadil (52 years), his wife Ishrat Aadil (45 years), and Ali Aadil (12 years).
- The fire broke out in the meter board of the building which has around 17 flats. In the fire, 11 two-wheelers including seven scooters and four motorbikes were damaged.

- The monsoon rains brought Noida in Gautam Buddh Nagar district to its knees on Thursday as people had a tough time battling long snarls and navigating through waterlogged roads.
- In the morning, roads in Sector 39 of Noida were waterlogged due to heavy downpour in the morning.
- However, these showers brought some level of relief to the people from humidity and scorching heat.

- California Senator Kamala Harris on Wednesday (local time) became the first African-American and South Asian woman to be nominated on a major party's ticket.
- Delivering her acceptance speech at the Democratic National Convention, Harris accepted the Democratic nomination for vice president and said that women had earned the right to vote 100 years back and African-American women had faced a long battle for voting rights, CNN reported.
- Harris, the daughter of Indian and Jamaican immigrants, was officially nominated by her sister Maya, niece Meena and stepdaughter, Ella Emhoff.

Traffic affected in various parts of Delhi amid rainfall
- Amid heavy rains in the national capital on Thursday, waterlogging has been reported from various parts of Delhi, affecting traffic in the city.
- "Waterlogging reported at Jhilmil Underpass (both carriageways). Traffic is affected now," informed the Delhi Police.
- The police further said that waterlogging was also reported in Rani Jhansi Road, MB Road and Lal Kuan.
- "Traffic Alert: Water logging reported under Raja Garden flyover (both carriageways). Traffic is affected now," it added.

- In the wake of the COVID-19 spread, the Kerala government has again banned the sale of fishes on the roadside in the state.
- People buy fishes from the roadside because of low prices and is economical for them.

North Korea to unveil new economic plans in January party meeting
- North Korea will hold a rare ruling party congress in January where leader Kim Jong Un will announce a new five-year plan to develop the country's dismal economy ravaged by US-led sanctions and the coronavirus pandemic, state media said Thursday.
- The plans were confirmed Wednesday during a plenary meeting of the Workers' Party's decision-making Central Committee where Kim acknowledged economic shortcomings caused by “unexpected and inevitable challenges in various aspects and the situation in the region surrounding the Korean Peninsula.”

India, China to hold WMCC meeting today to discuss disengagement along LAC, de-escalation of troops
- A meeting of Working Mechanism for Consultation and Coordination (WMCC) on India-China Border Affairs will be taking place on Thursday as part of the dialogue between the two countries for disengagement along LAC in Eastern Ladakh and de-escalation of troops.
- The seventeenth meeting of WMCC was held last month in which the two countries agreed that early and complete disengagement of the troops along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) and de-escalation from India-China border areas in accordance with bilateral agreement and protocols and full restoration of peace and tranquillity was essential for smooth overall development of bilateral relations.
US surpasses 5.5 million cases of coronavirus
- The United States has surpassed 5.5 million confirmed cases of coronavirus as of Wednesday (local time), according to the data compiled by the Johns Hopkins University.
- Till now, as many as 5,507,556 people in the US have tested COVID-19 positive and 172,511 deaths have been reported.
First-ever flight from Antananarivo to Mumbai to bring 61 stranded Indians
- The first-ever flight from Antananarivo to Mumbai, Air Madagascar will be evacuating 61 Indians stranded due to COVID-19 pandemic and to bring back about 160 Malagasy citizens from India on Thursday.
- "We at the Embassy of India in Antananarivo have been working hard to make this flight possible. It is the first direct flight between India and Madagascar, between Antananarivo and Mumbai, which is a historic moment," said Abhay Kumar, India's Ambassador to Madagascar.
- It will take about 6 and a half hours to fly from Antananarivo to Mumbai.
Reconsider decision of leasing out Thiruvananthapuram airport to private bidder: Kerala CM urges PM
- After the Cabinet approved the proposal for leasing out Thiruvananthapuram airport through Public-Private Partnership (PPP), Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Wednesday wrote to Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressing the inability of the state government to offer co-operation in this regard and urged his intervention "so that the decision is reconsidered."
- The Chief Minister said that the Union Cabinet has decided to hand over the management and operation of Trivandrum International Airport to a private bidder ignoring the repeated requests of the Government of Kerala for entrusting the same to the Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) in which State Government is the major stakeholder.
Suspension of incentives to Hong Kong will bring business to US: Trump
- US President Donald Trump on Wednesday (local time) said that the suspension of subsidies to Hong Kong will bring in business to the United States.
- Trump said, "We have given all sorts of incentives to Hong Kong so that freedom will be upheld in the city. It helped the city become a business hot spot. However, now with the freedom of Hong Kong being taken away by China, the US is no longer giving them the incentives."
- The business that earlier was in Hong Kong will come back to the US including the New York Stock Exchange and Nasdaq, he added.

- Swiggy's food delivery executives on Wednesday protested alleging drop in pay in new payment structure put in place by the company in Chennai.
- They alleged that their income has dropped at a time when they have already been hit by the pandemic and now they are getting only Rs 10 per delivery.
- Hundreds of Swiggy employees protest in various parts of Chennai.
- The delivery executives said the petrol consumes most of their income as its prices have also been increased in recent times.
- Now, they are demanding the old payment structure which gives them Rs 35 to Rs 40 for each delivery.
