Representative ImageChennai: Police on Wednesday arrested a 52-year-old woman for cheating job aspirants of more than Rs 50 lakh.
D Jamunadevi of Akkarai near Neelankarai had conned people, claiming that she could get them jobs in various departments of the state government through her contacts, police said. The Neelankarai police picked up the accused from her hideout after a tip.
They were acting based on directions from the commissioner’s office after grievances poured in against the accused. S Saravanan, a complainant, told police that the accused conned him into parting with Rs 12 lakh, promising a government job for his wife.
Jamunadevi was produced before a magistrate, who sent her to Puzhal prison. “We suspect that she may have been operating in other parts of the state too. It is just that some people here have come out against her,” a police officer said, adding that the public should be careful and be on guard against such ‘agents’ who promise government jobs.
