  • Kaizer Chiefs coach Ernst Middendorp believes Khama Billiat will soon be back to his best.
  • The 2016 PSL Player of the Season had an underwhelming performance against Bloemfontein Celtic on Wednesday.
  • The Zimbabwean international signed for the club in 2018 from rivals Mamelodi Sundowns.

Kaizer Chiefs head coach Ernst Middendorp is aware that star forward Khama Billiat has failed to produce his usual high standard of performances this season.

The Zimbabwean international once again put in a below-par display against Bloemfontein Celtic on Wednesday night as Amakhosi slipped to a 3-1 defeat at Tuks Stadium.

The former Mamelodi Sundowns forward's struggles this season continues as he has dealt with niggling injuries throughout the 2019/20 campaign.

Amakhosi, who are top of the Absa Premiership log ahead of second placed Masandawana, are in desperate need to maintain their six-point lead.

A firing Billiat could be of great use for Middendorp as the season reaches its boiling point with five matches remaining for the Sowetan giants.

The 2016 PSL Player of the Season arrived at Naturena in June 2018 and simply has not lived up to fans' expectations.

However, Middendorp is confident that with time the player will soon be back to his best.

"We know it's not a great season from Khama, but everybody knows there's huge potential and we can only support him and put him into the next movement and expect that he will do better," the German coach said.

The majority of Amakhosi's goals this season have come from Samir Nurkovic, Leonardo Castro and Lebogang Manyama.

Meanwhile, defensive duo Eric Mathoho and Daniel Cardoso have also added a handful of goals to help the Glamour Boys maintain their title surge.

Chiefs next face Stellenbosch FC on Sunday and a victory will be welcomed as the title race continues to heat up.
