2020 Corvette Convertibles Are Starting To Land At U.S. Dealerships

The first customer examples of the 2020 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Convertible have started arriving at dealerships in the United States.

It is understood that Chevrolet commenced production of the Corvette Stingray Convertible on August 3 and a Rapid Blue example was recently delivered to Criswell Chevrolet of Gaithersburg, Maryland.

Contrasting the bright blue paint of this ‘Vette, which is thought to be the first Convertible to arrive at a Chevy dealer, are a host of gloss black parts, including a portion of the front splitter, the wing mirrors, roof, rear wing and the rear diffuser. The short clip also provides us a peek inside the cabin, revealing gorgeous blue and black leather.

For some time, it was speculated that the coronavirus pandemic could have forced Chevrolet to delay the launch of the Corvette Convertible until the 2021 model year. However, in late May, Chevrolet’s Bowling Green Assembly Plant resumed production and will be building 2020 model year ‘Vettes until October, with production of the 2021 model set to begin the following month.

In developing the new C8 Corvette, Chevrolet engineered it with both Coupe and Convertible guises in mind. As such, it didn’t need to make any structural changes to the car when removing its fixed roof, meaning the Convertible weighs just 80 lbs (36 kg) more than the hardtop. The Convertible is also unique because the roof folds away into an area just above the 6.2-liter V8 engine, meaning it doesn’t eat into the car’s trunk.
