The site where the incident took placeAGRA: The main accused behind the hijacking of a private bus in Agra, carrying 34 passengers from Gurgram to Madhya Pradesh’s Panna, was arrested after being injured in a brief encounter with the police on Thursday.
According to police, the accused, who was travelling with one of his accomplices, Yatendra Yadav on a motorcycle, were intercepted by a police party in Fatehabad area. They opened fire on police in a bid to escape. In retaliatory firing, Gupta suffered bullet injuries in his leg, however, Yadav managed to escape.
SSP Agra Babloo Kumar told TOI that Gupta was taken to Community Health Centre (CHC) Fatehabad for medical assistance. He said that a team has been formed to arrest his accomplices and seize the SUV in which he was travelling in with his men at the time of hijacking of the bus.
During interrogation, Gupta told police that he has business relations with a Gwalior resident Ashok Arora and his family since 2012. He said that Arora owed him Rs 67 lakh for the registration and permit of his buses that he had arranged for him from Etawah and was not paying back despite repeated reminders. He said that he thus planned to take away his bus forcibly to recover the amount owed to him.
