Xiaomi Redmi 9 will launch on August 27 in India, the company has confirmed after teasing the phone for a while now. The Redmi 9 Prime was launched earlier this month and is a rebranded version of the Redmi 9 global variant. As such, the Redmi 9 is expected to be a rebranded version of the Redmi 9C for India.
A dedicated page on Xiaomi’s website indicates that the Redmi 9 for India will come with more RAM and Storage, Hyper Engine Game Technology, display with waterdrop notch, AI dual cameras and a high-capacity battery. The phone will also run on MIUI 12 out-of-the-box.
These features are in line with the Redmi 9C that was launched alongside the Redmi 9A and Redmi 9 in mid-July. Let’s take a look at the Redmi 9C specifications and expected pricing.
Xiaomi Redmi 9C comes with a 6.53-inch screen with HD+ (1600 x 720 pixels) resolution and a waterdrop notch cutout on the front which gives it a 20:9 aspect ratio.
The phone is powered by MediaTek Helio G35 chipset with an octa-core CPU and PowerVR GE8320 graphics. This is paired with upto 3GB RAM and 64GB storage with an option to increase the storage by upto 512GB with microSD card. It runs on the latest MIUI 12 which is based on Android 10.
The phone comes with a triple camera array that consists of a primary 13MP camera with f/1.8 aperture, a 5MP macro camera and a 2MP depth sensor. There’s a 5MP selfie camera on the front housed within the waterdrop notch cutout.
The Redmi 9C comes with a rear fingerprint sensor and is fitted with a 5,000mAh battery but doesn’t support fast charging.
Redmi 9C is priced starting at EUR 119 for the base variant with 2GB RAM and 32GB storage and EUR 139 for the 3GB RAM variant with 64GB storage. This indicates a starting price of around Rs 10,000, but we expect the phone to be priced at a much affordable price point considering the Redmi 9 Prime starts at Rs 9,999 in India.
