Rs 20 to 23 crore spent on providing food for Covid-19 patients in Tamil Nadu per day: Edappadi K Palaniswami

PUDUCHERRY: Chief minister Edappadi K Palaniswami on Thursday said the government spends Rs 20 to Rs 23 crore per day on providing food to Covid-19 patients, who are undergoing treatment at various facilities across Tamil Nadu.
Speaking to reporters after reviewing the pandemic scenario and treatment facilities in Vellore, Ranipet and Thiruppathur districts on Thursday, Palaniswami said the government has not arrived at the quantum of revenue loss due to Covid-19.
About Vinayaka Chaturthi processions and celebrations, the chief minister said that the government will function as per the orders of Madras high court and guidelines given by the Union government that states a ban on religious gatherings and processions in public places.
He also assured to look into the complaints over sub-standard masks distributed at fair price shops.
“Government has been urging Centre to link rivers in the country and pointed out that he had insisted the Centre link Godavari and Cauvery rivers during a videoconference with the Jal Shakthi minister a few days ago,” he added.
He further said the government has appealed to the Centre to provide Rs 600 crore financial assistance to establish a facility to treat and remove toxic chemicals let out by industries in Ranipet district.
