Truck rams into stationary vehicle at EPE, one dies

Greater Noida: A 33-year old truck driver died after his vehicle rammed into another stationary truck at Eastern Peripheral Expressway (EPE) near Sirsa village on Wednesday.
The deceased was identified as Bhagwan Sahay, a native of Rajasthan. “He was ferrying tyres for his hometown to somewhere in Hapur. He was travelling with his helper, Rohtas,” a police officer said.
The accident happened around 4.45am when Sahay’s truck rammed into the other vehicle. The impact of the collision was such that the front of the moving truck was damaged beyond recognition.
“A police team was immediately sent to the spot and the driver was taken out after cutting the body of the truck. He along with his helper was rushed to a nearby hospital where doctors pronounced him dead while Rohtas was admitted for minor injuries and trauma,” said Prabhat Dixit, SHO, Kasna police station.
Dixit added that the driver of the stationary truck had immediately fled the spot.
An FIR was lodged against the unknown driver under sections 279 (rash driving or riding on a public way), 338 (causing grievous hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others), 304A (causing death by negligence) and 427 (mischief) of IPC. “The truck has been seized and the arrest of the absconding driver will be made soon,” the SHO said.
