A newborn baby had only been alive for a matter of hours when it was found dead at a family home in Perth, where a man was led away from the scene in handcuffs.
Emergency services rushed to a home on Cassidy Road at Thornlie, in Perth's south-east at about 1pm on Wednesday.
The child, whose sex was not released, was believed to have been born prematurely in the early hours of the morning.

The baby's 26-year-old mother was taken to Fiona Stanley Hospital in the back of an ambulance that was escorted by police, The West Australian reported.
A man was lead away from the home in handcuffs as a towel covered his face late on Wednesday. His arrest was reportedly unrelated to the child's death.
Friends called emergency services about 1pm but the baby was believed to have died before paramedics arrived.
Detectives are still investigating the circumstances surrounding the tragic death as the parents continue to assist police with inquiries.

Local detectives talked to neighbours as forensic officers from the coronial unit examined the crime scene.
Police are urging anyone who has any information about the death or saw any activity at the property to contact Crime Stoppers immediately.
