20-year-old student shoots himself

Gurgaon: A 20-year-old student of marine engineering allegedly shot himself dead with a country-made pistol in his flat in Sector 84 on Monday. “The deceased was alone at his home at the time of the incident. No suicide note was found from the spot,” a police officer said.
He was studying at a college in Chennai and had come back home in Gurgaon due to lockdown.
Police said his father was keeping unwell and on August 16 he was admitted to a private hospital for treatment. His mother and elder brother were attending to his father in the hospital and he used to remain at home.
On Monday, the youth called his elder brother around 6.30pm and inquired when he will return home.
“I came back around 8.30pm and rang the doorbell. After receiving no response I called on his mobile but he didn’t pick up,” the brother told police. He added that he broke open the door and found his brother lying in a pool of blood with a gun in his right hand.
“The deceased had shot himself on the right side of his head with a country-made pistol,” said police spokesperson Subhash Boken, adding that the body was handed over to the family after post-mortem. “The reason behind the suicide is not clear yet,” Boken said.
