Pakistan violates ceasefire along LoC in Rajouri

JAMMU: After a gap of three days, Pakistani troops on Wednesday again breached the truce by resorting to unprovoked firing and heavy shelling along the Line of Control (LoC), targeting forward Indian posts and civilian areas in Jammu and Kashmir’s Rajouri district.
“Around 4.30pm, Pakistan initiated the ceasefire violation by firing with small arms and intense mortar shelling along the LoC in Keri Battal area of Rajouri district, to which the Indian Army retaliated befittingly,” Jammu-based defence spokesman Lt Col Devender Anand said.
Earlier, Pakistani troops on August 16 (Sunday) had violated the ceasefire along the LoC in Rajouri’s Nowshera sector. Pakistan has been targeting forward areas along the LoC in Qasba, Krishna Ghati, Balakote, Mankote, Mendhar, Kirni sectors of Poonch and Sunderbani, Nowshera sectors of Rajouri district since August 4.
On August 1, Sepoy Rohin Kumar of Himachal Pradesh had attained martyrdom when Pakistan opened unprovoked firing along the LoC in Rajouri district. It was the sixth fatality suffered by the Indian Army during unprovoked ceasefire violations by Pakistan in Rajouri and Poonch districts of Jammu and Kashmir since June 4.
