A father who spat at a parking inspector twice when he thought was writing him a fine has been labelled 'despicable' by a judge.

Kane Scott David Brook, 24, was on a date at Point Cartwright on the Sunshine Coast on May 5 when he spotted the inspector near his car at about 2.30pm.

Brook yelled out to the inspector and walked over to him in an aggressive manner, Caloundra Magistrates Court heard, Sunshine Coast Daily reported.

Brook began to argue with the parking inspector, who the court was told was only writing warnings for two illegally parked cars.

He then became more aggressive, which prompted the inspector to take photos of Brook's number plate.

Brook attempted to cover his number plate before sticking up his middle finger to the inspector, the court heard.

The parking inspector walked to his own car and turned to take a photo of Brook's number plate.

He once again blocked the plate before spitting at the inspector twice.

The court heard Brook was three metres away from the victim when he spat at him.

Police prosecutor Phillip Stephens said the parking inspector feared for his safety and health, particularly at the height of Queensland's COVID-19 crisis.

Brook pleaded guilty to serious assault of a public officer.

Duty lawyer Donna Hanslow-Hastie told to the court that before the incident Brook's partner and children had left him and 'he wasn't in a good frame of mind'.

'He's embarrassed and he's remorseful for his behaviour,' she said.

Magistrate Graham Hillan said: 'It is a despicable act what you've done and considering the officer was just going to write you a caution and he got that for his troubles.'

Brook was handed a $1,500 fine and a conviction was recorded.
